Cancer has devastated millions of families across the world. There are more than 400 different types of cancers that one can be diagnosed with. Personally my family has been heavily affected twice due to this disease.

The first person who was diagnosed in my family with my Grandfather, my mom’s dad. He has colon cancer, which was diagnosed as “high grade” and rapidly spread throughout his entire body. My grandfather died peacefully in his sleep 13 years ago when I was ten.

The second person who was diagnosed with cancer was my best friend, my hero, my mother. She was diagnosed with cervical cancer. She fought the cancer for 5 years and peacefully past away in October 2008.

Cancer has made me struggle with loss and heartache. Every day I miss my grandfather and my mother dearly. Cancer has made me struggle the past year without a mother and I continue to fight the battle against cancer even though I do not have it.

If I could cure any disease, it would be cancer!

Doctor's are doing research on how to cure cancer. Professional writing is extremely important in finding a cure for cancer because researcher/doctors have to write several documentations, reports, memos, letters, in order to find a cure. It is important that these types of communication and documentations are accurate, professional, informative, and have appropriate tone for each type of professional writing that is being done.

  2. Excellent post! Also, I'm sorry to hear that you've lost family members because of cancer... I've also lost a grandparent because of the disease. More money really does need to go to finding a cure.

  3. Sorry about your loss. I lost my grandmother to cancer. Even though it was 13 years ago, there is still a void in our family that only she could fill. You're right about the need for more funding.

  4. Great Post Meghan sorry for your family's losses. You present some great information on cancer my only suggestion would be to give some specific examples on how professional writing has a lot to do with curing cancer. But great Post overall i too hope we can find a cure sooner than later.

  6. I almost lost my grandmother to cancer...great job on the post. Cancer is something that should be looked at closely and taking into consideration that something needs to be done about. But we have to give props where they are needed, doctors have come a long way since the beginning of time. Hang in there girl!
